Hello, everyone, and welcome to episode 57 of LiveFitNow podcast! I'm your host, Vicki Brown, and today we're diving into the topic of New Year's resolutions. We've all been there, setting big goals at the start of the year, only to find ourselves losing motivation a few weeks later. But fear not, my friends, because in this episode, we'll discover a better approach to achieving lasting change. So, grab your favourite beverage, get cozy, and let's dive in!

It's that time of year when everyone is talking about their New Year's resolutions. We're bombarded with messages like "New year, new you," and it's easy to get caught up in the excitement of setting ambitious goals. However, studies have shown that a large percentage of these resolutions fail within the first few weeks or months. Why is that? Well, often, the problem lies in the all-or-nothing mentality and the unrealistic expectations we set for ourselves.

So, instead of adopting an all-or-nothing mentality, how about we focus on setting intentions for the year ahead? Intentions are like gentle whispers guiding us towards a healthier lifestyle without the pressure of immediate, drastic changes. By shifting our mindset, we can create a more sustainable, long-term approach to self-improvement.

Start small. Think about the tiny habits you can incorporate into your daily routine. It could be as simple as drinking more water, planning meals being sure to add enough protein, fruits and vegetables, or taking a short walk after dinner. These small consistent changes add up over time and have a far greater impact than setting lofty goals that may feel overwhelming.

Remember, it's not about achieving perfection overnight. It's about building healthy habits through gradual progress. By setting intentions, we allow ourselves the flexibility to adapt, learn, and grow along the way. This approach shifts the focus from short-term results to sustainable, long-term change.

Now, let's talk about making a difference that lasts. When we focus on small, sustainable changes, we create a foundation for long-term success. It's like building a strong house brick by brick. Each small change we implement becomes a solid brick supporting our overall well-being. These changes can include incorporating mindfulness practices, engaging in regular physical activity, improving our nutrition, or prioritising self-care.

Consistency is key. By incorporating these small changes into our daily lives, they become second nature. We no longer need to rely on sheer willpower to stay on track. It becomes a part of who we are, and that's when we see lasting transformations. The key is to celebrate progress, no matter how small, and maintain a positive attitude towards ourselves and our journey.

I encourage you to set aside some time in the coming days to reflect on what you truly want to cultivate in your life this year. Be honest with yourself about what feels truly attainable and aligns with your values. These intentions will become your North Star, guiding you towards a healthier, happier you. And remember, it's never too late to start. Every day is an opportunity for growth and progress.

One powerful tool to help achieve your goals is creating a vision board.

A vision board is a visual representation of your goals, dreams, and desires. It's a collage of images, words, and phrases that inspire and motivate you. By creating a vision board, you bring your goals into focus, helping you stay focused on what you want to achieve.

Here are a few steps to create an impactful vision board for the year ahead:

1.   Get Clear on Your Goals: Take some time to reflect on what you want to accomplish in the coming year. Write down your goals in different areas of your life, such as health, career, relationships, personal development, and travel.

2.   Gather Inspiration: Look for images, quotes, and words that resonate with your goals and aspirations. You can cut them out from magazines, print them from online sources, or even create your own designs.

3.   Arrange and Create: Get a large poster board, corkboard, or even a digital canvas if you prefer. Start arranging your images and words in a way that feels visually appealing to you. You can organize them by category or create a more free-flowing design.

4.   Display and Visualise: Once your vision board is complete, find a prominent place to display it. It could be in your room, office, or any space where you'll see it daily. Take a few moments each day to look at your vision board and visualize yourself accomplishing your goals.

Remember, a vision board is just the start. It's a powerful tool to help you clarify and focus on what you want to achieve. But it's important to take action and consistently work towards your goals. A vision board serves as a reminder of what's important to you and can inspire you to stay motivated and take the necessary steps towards your dreams.

So, why not give it a try? Create your vision board for the year ahead and watch as it helps you bring your goals to life!

If there is one message that I would love for you to take away from this podcast, it’s to find what works for you. Setting new year resolutions do work for some. If you feel motivated right now, use that energy. It’s important that we make promises to ourselves and keeping them is vital regarding many aspects of our lives. Pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone is good, and it works if we want to grow and feel better. But you can also take it easy right now and wait to use that natural spark of motivation whenever it comes, in the following days, weeks or even months. When we are feeling ready for action and change we need to utilise discipline, but there are no hard and fast rules, find what works for you.

Well, that brings us to the end of today's episode. I hope you found inspiration in these ideas of setting intentions and building healthy habits through small, consistent changes. Remember, it's the little steps that lead to big transformations. Embrace the power of intention and cultivate the life you deserve.
